Nuffnang Contest: Alice in Wonderland

I read Alice in Wonderland for a nineteenth century literature module and it was probably one of my favorite texts on the module. It is actually categorized under the genre of "nonsense fiction"! The unabridged version is just awesome for its witty word play and it is hilarious!

The complete title of this book is actually: Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and it is written by a thirty-year-old mathematician, Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (who took on the pen name "Lewis Carroll"). The story was originally told spontaneously to three girls and written down from memory for their private entertainment. And the main character in the book, Alice was named after one of the girls, Alice Liddell.

My favorite character in the book is oddly, the White Rabbit. Partly because he was the one who led Alice into Wonderland and the first character Alice runs into, but mostly because the image of a rabbit in a waistcoat-pocket and a watch is too cute to resist! It also a little kan cheong spider, I mean rabbit, that is always worried about incurring the wrath of the Queen. Actually, the White Rabbit always reminds of a self-important, old butler who takes the effort to dress to the tops but is ultimately always at the mercy of the Queen. It is hard not to sympathize and love this Rabbit!

For Alice in Wonderland fans, the upcoming movie by Tim Burton is a must-watch

>

I can't wait for the movie to open here in SG & I will be catching it with Lei (: (

Postage Charges

All Book Prices do not include postage charges but,
Postage charges are usually stated in brackets in each post too.

eg. Selling @: SGD $15 (Not Inclusive of Postage Charge of $0.80)

The postage prices are determined by the Local Mailing Rates in Singapore:
All hard-covers are considered Non-Standard Mail, while soft-covers are Standard Mail.
The weight of the book also determines the price.

If you prefer to have your book sent to you via Registered Mail, it will be at an additional cost of $2.25

All in all, I don't make any profits from Postage Charges, everything is tagged to Local Mailing Rates (:

Postage Charges are not applicable if you opt to pick up your books in person.

The 101s in Junkyard of Books: How to Sell a Book?

Got second hand books to sell?

It is definitely the vision of Junkyard to become a space where people can sell their books here. Just imagine an online community of people actively buying and selling their books on a single place, plus discuss about great books!

The benefits of selling books in a community setting is obvious - larger pools of potential buyers. The best part is that you can simply tell me about your book, and I will post it up for you and handle all the liaising for you.

Right now, I am trying to work at something which involves zero costs for posting books here, but a small commission for every book you manage to sell here.

Unfortunately, I am still trying to work through some logistical problems. Please be patient and check back here soon! If you're interested to sell books here, simply leave a comment with your name and contacts or email me at junkyardofbooks@gmail.com. I will get in contact with you once I work through the logistical problems!

The 101s in Junkyard of Books: What do all the Book Conditions Mean?

What does "No one would know" really mean?

Found a book you like, but unsure of its condition? Each of the books posted here comes with a description of its condition. Here at Junkyard of Books, we categorize our books into four conditions:

1. Brand New.
Well, it is brand new! You are going to be its first owner!

2. No one would know.
This book looks so new that only the shrewd eyed reader will be able to tell that it is second hand. I could pass it off as a brand new book but I can't bring myself to lie to you! Books in this condition is perfect as budget gifts for friends as well (:

3. Good enough for yourself
As opposed to the "No one would know" second hand book, that is suitable as gifts for friends, this category of books are "good enough for yourself". But they are in no way falling apart - I should rephrase and say, "it is perfect for yourself"!

4. Only for Book Junkies
This is for the absolute book junkie - some tatters won't deter you from laying your hands on the book you want!

In addition to these general categorizations, each posting also comes with finer details of the book under the section, "Other Details". And if you still need more information, feel free to drop a comment or email junkyardofbooks.gmail.com for more details.
